The best time to book your newborn session is while you are still pregnant, that way we can be certain to photograph your newborn at the best possible time, which is between 7-14 days of age. Any older than that and they are generally less sleepy and harder to pose because they are more alert and their little bellies are getting a little bigger.
I do my newborn sessions in the studio where I have lots of cute props, knitted hats, headbands, wraps and everything else needed to make your newborn cuter. I MOSTLY photograph newborns totally nude, so please be aware of this before booking.
Please try to avoid wearing anything too tight or restrictive (including tight fitting diapers) to avoid creating dents or marks on your baby’s skin for a couple hours prior to your baby’s session.
Newborns usually run the show at these session! I try not to stress them when they are this young. If your newborn is showing signs of not wanting to pose, be in front of the camera or even be away from mom for to long. I like to try again on another day. I will usually book another appointment a couple days down the road ( at no charge to you). So please be aware of this when coming to your session. I want to make sure you get the best possible images possible!
Here are a few ideas for you to bring for your newborn. The following items are only suggestions, so please feel free to bring along any new ideas as well. It is better to bring along too much and not use something than to be at the studio and wish you had packed a specific item.
-
White, short sleeved onesie
-
Any favorite hats, bows, headbands, booties, diaper covers…….
-
A special stuffed animal or doll. A cuddly blanket
-
Extra diapers and wipes
-
Bottles (if bottle fed), pacifiers or anything that helps sooth baby
-
Burp rags
-
Mom and/or Dad try each bring a white and black tee-shirt to be photographed with baby.
Sessions last an average of 2 hours but can last for up to 4 hours. This allows plenty of time for diaper changes and feedings. Please bring lots of water, a snack for yourself (especially if you are breastfeeding). I like to keep the studio at a VERY warm temperature to be ensure your newborn does not get to cold. Please dress in layers! :)
If you are bringing siblings for photographs with the baby, I accommodate one pose into the session but please ensure they are well supervised and perhaps have a second person come to pick them up afterwards to avoid them becoming bored as that could disrupt the flow of the session.
Contact me today about booking your newborn session as these first special moments will pass by before you know it and I can't wait to capture these precious memories for you.
